The human sacrifice-a grotesque monumental crucifix-dominated the décor, and the congregation was assured by the priest that eternal life was the reward for belief in the Lamb there was no doubt whatever that the soul of the deceased had ascended to heaven, as symbolized by the smoke floating upward from the incense burner. In order to fully appreciate the story line of this moving presentation, it is important to understand that the analogy of Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God is one that has its roots in the historic sacrificial system of the Jewish people.īecause of man’s sin, God declared that a blood sacrifice would have to be made in order that there might be forgiveness.
